ATCA Applauds Record-Breaking Air Traffic Controller Recruitment Effort

The Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) congratulates the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration on the most successful air traffic controller recruitment launch in FAA history.

Under the leadership of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, the Federal Aviation Administration received an unprecedented 12,350 applications during a single 24-hour application window, with 10,779 qualified candidates, more than double the agency’s previous first-day record. Equally significant, qualified applicants are now being processed seven times faster than last year, dramatically accelerating the path from application to training.

“This achievement represents a major step forward in strengthening the nation’s air traffic control workforce,” said ATCA President Stephen Creamer. “ATCA commends Secretary Duffy and Administrator Bedford for their commitment to innovation, efficiency, and long-term workforce sustainability. A robust pipeline of highly qualified air traffic controllers is essential to maintaining the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System. With this great start for this year’s hiring cycle, the FAA is continuing to build on robust series of actions to increase retention, improve the likelihood of successful certification outcomes and bolster staffing levels so that controllers will be able to fully engage in helping to safely deliver the exciting changes coming with the Brand New Air Traffic Control System modernizations and other capacity and efficiency improvements planned for the next 3-5 years.

“As the aviation community continues to modernize and adapt to increasing demand, efforts like this demonstrate how forward-thinking strategies can deliver real results,” Creamer added.
